Looking back on 2020 at Harmony
July 14, 2023
The last 12 months has seen everyone faced with changes and challenges but despite this, the community spirit at Harmony has been unwavering. It’s now been three years since Harmony welcomed its first residents and without any doubt, it is a thriving and connected community.
The residents of Harmony are the heart and soul of the community and welcoming the 1,000th family back in July marked a significant milestone for the project. To date we have welcomed more than 3,500 residents, with more than 1,200 homes built within Harmony.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, there were no roadblocks to construction as Harmony delivered more community spaces and amenities. Residents were keen to see the community grow and take advantage of family-friendly spaces and get together in the sunshine with the opening of two new parks.
In May, the second phase of Harmony’s Grand Linear Park opened for the littlest adventurers – with a treehouse, sandpit, elevated walkways and even a fossil dig – allowing their creativity and imagination to shine.
The opening of the District Sports Park in September has provided an opportunity for local kids to join the Chancellor Park Soccer Club which has now taken up residency at the new park. The three multi-use sports fields and community clubhouse have proved the perfect home for budding soccer stars.
Of course, the residents of Harmony don’t just love having the opportunity to get active outdoors and play a game or two themselves, they also love to watch their favourite netball team − the Sunshine Coast Lightning – score big! 2020 saw another impressive season for the local sporting heroes and Harmony’s continued sponsorship of the team gave many residents an opportunity to cheer them on courtside decked out in team colours.
A focus on the community and being environmentally friendly is part of what makes living at Harmony so special, and 2020 proved to be no different. The Maroochydore State Emergency Services, Sunshine and Sing and Chancellor State College Chaplaincy Program were all supported as part of Harmony’s 2019/2020 Community Sponsorship and Grants Program.
In addition to our Community Sponsorship and Grants Program we have been delighted to work with Murphy Homes and The Daniel Morcombe Foundation on the Build it for the Kids Home – which was sold at auction for $630,000, with more than $160,000 in profits supporting the Foundation and their continued work to keep children safe.
Although events looked a little different this year, engaging with the Harmony community remained the ultimate focus. We continued to celebrate and connect with residents whilst adapting to the new COVID-safe norms, including connecting residents through digital channels on Neighbour Day and creating the Harmony Business Hub to connect people to local businesses.
To add some more colour and creativity to the community and find a new way to connect residents, Harmony launched Artspace – its first outdoor gallery − showcasing the talent of nine local artists from the Sunshine Coast region, who celebrate and explore Harmony and place through their artwork.
More recently, Harmony dusted off its Christmas decorations and launched its inaugural Christmas Lights Competition to deliver Christmas cheer and spirit to the streets of Harmony. To keep festivities high, the usual Long Table Dinner was safely adapted to a Christmas Driveway Dinner – featuring roving festive entertainment and a visit from Santa.
As Harmony continues to grow, we look forward to welcoming residents to our piece of paradise on the Sunshine Coast. We can’t wait for what 2021 has to bring – more exciting events, community amenities and more happy families joining the Harmony community.
